What is Teacher's Day?

Teachers Day is celebrated on 5th September every year in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a renowned philosopher and the second President of India. Dr Radhakrishnan was a distinguished scholar and a respected teacher who contributed significantly to the field of education. On his birthday, we celebrate Teachers Day to honour all the teachers who have made a difference in our lives.

History of Teachers Day

The history of Teachers Day dates back to 1962 when Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan became the President of India. On his birthday, some of his students and friends requested that he allow them to celebrate his birthday. However, Dr Radhakrishnan requested they celebrate the day as Teachers Day to honour the contributions of teachers in society. Since then, Teachers Day has been celebrated every year on the 5th of September in India.
